Gaslamp Condos for Sale

San Diego's Historic Gaslamp Quarter has become one of San Diego's most prominent and popular neighborhoods, featuring a charming blend of old and new buildings. In 1870 Alonzo Horton built a wharf at the end of Fifth Avenue and a development boom ensued. Although these days a wide variety of people (tourist, convention attendees and residents) enjoy the Gaslamp's bars and restaurants, the original visitors of the 1880s were gamblers such as Wyatt Earp and Ida Bailey, who founded numerous gambling halls, saloons and brothels in San Diego Gaslamp. Today the Gaslamp's unique architecture stands as a testament to its 30-year heyday, between the years 1880 and 1910.

This 16.5-block neighborhood stretching from the Convention center up to Broadway is now recognized on the National Register of Historic Places, and its 94 historically or architecturally significant structures now house more than 125 restaurants, coffeehouses and nightclubs. There are over one hundred retail shops and art galleries, plus movie theaters, a live concert venue (inside the Hard Rock Hotel) and residential condos & lofts. The Gaslamp district includes one park (great for dogs) at the start of the Martin Luther King promenade. The Asian Pacific Thematic District also has a significant history in the Gaslamp, and several Asian-style buildings still stand. There are about a dozen annual events held in this district, usually originating from a cultural holiday (i.e. Mardi Gras parade) to the delight of San Diego area residents and visitors.
